lady_bug_kay: (buddha why me?)
Um. Hi.

Yes, it's me. It's been forever, I know, and I have, once again, been wholly absent from LJ - aside from some lurking in certain fandoms - and as a result, this means I have been ignoring all of you lovely people. Not that that is what I wanted to do. I don't want to ignore you. I feel terribly about having ignored you. I doubt I'll have any internet friends left with the way I've been going.

But, as I've said before and we'll hope this time sticks, I'm trying to stage a comeback. I have a fic in the works and it is almost finished. Admittedly, it was supposed to be for a holiday project for which I didn't meet the deadline, but in my defense, I've been pretty damned sick TWICE over the last month and a half (I'm sick of being sick already!) and then my damned internet connection...

Well. Anyway. Suffice to say: there are reasons, if not excuses. But on the plus side, this means that in the next week or so, I will be posting a nice, long, approximately 20, 000 words in length, Superman/Batman (Clark/Bruce) fic. Now, it's been ages and ages, probably a good year and a half or so, since I've written this pairing, so let's hope I've remembered how. But there will be fic, assuming there's anyone around to read it. I just have to finish up the big sex scene that was the inspiration for the whole fic and which defied being written for months, and then do the wrap-up and editing and get it betad and... voila.

So this is me. Waving my little flag in the wasteland and saying 'hey' and 'stay tuned.'

.........and if there is anyone out there, I recently read something referring to what are known as "sweater fics" or "warm, fuzzy sweater fics." These are fics that are purely feel-good stories that you love to come back to over and over and reread because they make you feel so happy. I like to call them "my happy place" fics. Rec me some of yours? Any fandom I read or might read would be fantastic (eg. DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Inception, Glee, Merlin, Harry Potter, Doctor Who/ Torchwood, Smallville, T:SCC, Buffy/Angel/Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, Supernatural, NCIS:LA, Hawaii 5-0, Sherlock Holmes/ Sherlock BBC, The Fast and the Furious, Queer As Folk). Even if you aren't sure if I do read in that fandom, if you think I should read a fic, go ahead and rec it for me anyway? Pretty, pretty please?

*waits and listens to the crickets* ;)
lady_bug_kay: (deancastiel hallelujah)
I know, I know, I know. I'm the worst friend ever and I never seem to post any fic anymore, and I am so far behind in posting the things I've written and writing the things I've promised.

Blame it on the Olympics, at which we won 14...count 'em, 14... gold medals.

But I know you'll forgive all of that because I'm going to point you to a wonderful fic that contains the absolute greatest conception of heaven. Ever. It's a Dean/Castiel fic called The Assumption of the Winchesters (Plus Bobby), and I defy you to read it and not feel all warm and contented and tickled right down to your little toes.

...now that you've read it and forgiven me my glaring absences, I make one more promise: I will post something. Soon. Though I can't guarantee the quality.

Anybody out there want/need a really, REALLY good laugh? (Everybody, right?)

Go read THIS.

Right now. I'm not joking, go right now. What are you still doing here?
lady_bug_kay: (Default)
I told BradyGirl I'd give her my list of favourite Kirk/Spock fics, and then Saavikam was bemoaning the lack of Trekslash, so I thought it would be a good idea to post a few recs. K/S fic is a little hard to find--well, free and online, anyway; there are zines with tons of stories, but you have to purchase them--and good K/S fic is even harder to find. I'm hoping the new movie will bring more about, but until then, here are my offered recs. If you've read them already, which you probably have, read them again because they're really good. If you haven't read them, give them a try.

Here be Kirk/Spock fic recs. )

Finally, take a look at this brilliant Kirk/Spock vid I found. (or if you want the link, Running Up That Hill.)

Over and above and beyond everything else, [personal profile] pervyficgirl WROTE ME CLARK/KYLE FIC!!!!!!!!  Yes, it's true. Because she is amazing and sweet and talented like that, and probably because I whined pathetically that I couldn't find much at all of this tragically underwritten pairing. It's called An Artist and a Model, and it's a beautiful little thing that you should all go read. Right now. And then leave oodles of encomiastic feedback in her honour and keep her thinking about writing more. *nudges in the most unsubtle way imaginable* I'm all puffed up with pride because it was written for me, and I want to hug it and squeeze it and call it George. (Possibly I need help, but this made me so very happy. LOL)

She also wrote me more of her 1000 Days series, with Clark/Dick, with a possible future moment between them. It's called Loom in the Distance, and it's lovely. Of course. (If you haven't read this series yet, what are you waiting for? And if you have, skip ahead to see what life might be like for these two beautiful boys.)

Then, for anyone who might not be aware of it or might not read writers with whom they are unfamiliar, I took a chance on [profile] goddessleila's I'm Your Country (If You Want Me) and fell head over heels in love. It's Bruce/Clark with unrequited Clark/Lex UST in the background, and it's stunning. This Clark -- this Superman -- is a fascinating look at what the Clark from Smallville (at least the first few seasons) would be like if he and Lex continued to be friends into the future; if Lex never went 'evil' and Clark matured while being best friends with Lex, and therefore influenced by Lex. He's still Superman and he's still Clark Kent, but he's a more complex individual. Also, we get to see the impact on Clark's life of having all of these powers that are part of him all the time. He's not just a man who can fly and comes from another planet; all of those powers exist all the time, every second of his life, and they affect his life in a huge way.

As for Bruce, well, I defy you not to fall in love with him in this fic. It's impossible.
([personal profile] tmelange, if you haven't read this yet, do it now. You'll love it, I guarantee.)

And finally, for anyone who is into musicals, here's a little something I stumbled across online. They made Legally Blonde into a musical, and a while back, I guess, MTV made some kind of arrangement so that they broadcast a live performance of the show with all the cast and everything. The music is fun, the performers, especially 'Elle,' are phenomenal singers, and all you have to do is ignore the karaoke sing-along lyrics across the bottom of the image. Technically, it's not supposed to have been taped and put online, but you know how it goes. If you're interested, it's on megavideo. THE WHOLE SHOW. It's up in two parts, around an hour each. Here is Act One and Act Two.

Hey. It's a Broadway show you get to see for free in your own home. Not bad.

Hidey-ho, my lovely DC flisters...and anyone else who is feeling generous and especially knowledgeable.

I am looking for Clark Kent/ Kyle Rayner fic. Does anyone know of any? If some exists, I have the feeling there isn't much, but if you are aware of any, would you please let me know? I've been on a rare pairings/ new fandoms kick recently, because a few of the ones I do read have been either not producing much lately, or not producing much I want to read. (With all due respect to those fandoms, of course.) So, if you are willing and able to help me out, I am willing to offer the firstborn I doubt I will ever have, in gratitude. ;)

THANKS!

ETA:  I've been looking. And looking. And aside from a Clark/Kyle/Bruce fic I remember reading ages ago, I have found only ONE Clark/Kyle fic. It's wonderful and adorable, and if you haven't read it -- although it was written a few years ago -- it's called Hero Worship. I did find a lovely little Dick/Kyle fic, Stress Reaction, which made me want to read more of that pairing, but alas, that is the only one I can find there, too, and it is also several years old. Where is the fic for these two incredible pairings? Where is the LOVE?!

*falls to knees and begs for fic recs or for someone to write new fic*

*offers a drabble to anyone who does*

(And does anyone else without a paid account feel the pain and self-doubt about changing icons? I love the ones I have and I don't want to let them go, but I have some wonderful new ones just waiting to be used, and I feel like a change. Check out my new Nightwing icon with the old costumes in the reflections -- I love that cover. Oh, and I could really use a new Superman/Batman icon, or maybe just a Batman, if anyone has any recs.)
lady_bug_kay: (sb)
Take a look at this gorgeous Superman Returns/Batman Begins video I found.

lady_bug_kay: (stopwatch)
It's actually just the one rec, but I'm so giddily in awe of it that I had to say it three times.

Every once in a while, you come across a fic that is so unique and beautiful and perfect you just have to tell everyone you know. And every once in a while, you come across a fic that crosses 2 wildly different fandoms and yet works so effortlessly it seems as if the crossover was both inevitable and necessary. This fic does both. And so I rec you this, my friends, a wonderful treat by the beauteous [profile] demon_faith. I think everyone should read it, because no matter how much it might sound like crack, it is very much not. It's called Four Things Jack Never Did in Nineteenth Century France (and one thing he did), and it's a crossover between Torchwood and Les Miserables, the musical.

Yes, you read that right. Now go read it and leave the incredible author some much-deserved love for the stunning concept and stellar writing.
lady_bug_kay: (sb)
If you need a really good laugh, I can recommend nothing better than [profile] jen_in_japan's  For Great Truth and Justice. It's set in the DC comics verse, but you don't need to know anything about canon. In fact, if you know who Batman and Superman are, you're set. You don't even need to know the anime reference, because not knowing won't hinder your enjoyment of it at all.

The important thing is, I laughed so hard I cried. Honestly. I mean, I had honest to goodness tears streaming down my face and an ache in my gut from giggling so much and for so long. I'm not exaggerating even a little bit. It's that funny.

So go now and read this fic. Come on, you know you want to. ([profile] mclachlan, since you're under the weather, I really think you should take a look at this to brighten your day.) I can guarantee that you will laugh out loud.
lady_bug_kay: (downcastdick)
[profile] mclachlan, this is for you, in honour of your bravery against all things with many legs and too much speed.

You may have already read these, but if you haven't, you should, and if you have, you should reread them. *g*

Two of my all-time favourite Dick/Tim stories:

[profile] petronelle's  So sweet a changeling. This story has an underage character, but it's not the one you'd expect for this pairing. It's time travel and it's Dick/Tim and it has the most lovable Dick ever. Batman needs a Robin, and Robin needs a Batman, but Bruce isn't the Batman that matters, here.

[profile] thete1's Waiting for you. This one is all about the epic and inevitable romance of Dick and Tim. It's time travel, again -- one of my favourite plot devices in the DC fandom -- and it's absolutely wonderful. Tim has always been in love with Dick, and strangely enough, Dick has always been in love with Tim.

Oh, and both of them are NC-17. Also, happy endings, which you deserve since your basement has become no man's land.

I've been reading a lot of Supernatural fic, lately, most of it Wincest, and there are some really good stories out there. But the other day, I found a truly gorgeous series by

[personal profile] mgbutterfly   known as the Dream 'verse, and I fell in love with it. (Sam/Dean)

The bare-bones basic premise of the series is the idea that Dean is aware of and a part of Sam's dreams. But that's not what makes this series the jewel it is. It's the writing. The characterizations are strong and perfect, and the writing is so wonderfully visual that you feel as if it is all unfolding in front of your eyes. The mood of the fics in this 'verse is contented and gentle, quiet and lazy, and there is a surreality to the descriptions of the dreams that is hauntingly lovely. The emphasis in these stories is not on plot but on the feeling of the developing relationship between Sam and Dean, and it's delicious. There is a sophistication to the writing and a beauty to the language that makes this series really rich and juicy, and it has become my happy place and my refuge from any and all angst.

In fact, I am going so far as to say that it is on the list (and I don't know how long that thing is, anymore) of my favourite fanfics ever, regardless of fandom. If you read SPN fic and you enjoy and/or don't mind Wincest, please take a look at these fics and leave some love for the author.

These are the existing stories, in order of their posting:

With No Provision But An Open Face (Along The Straits of Fear)
To The Very Depths

The Song Remains The Same
The Sound of Thunder, it Roared

[profile] demon_faithwrote this story a while back called "Revenge Is a Kiss" and I loved it and was basically all pushy about her writing more of this story and writing more in general -- because technically she retired, but I can be a pushy bitch when I like a writer. *g*

Finally, she caved, and has written more and turned it into the Remade Trilogy

The first two stories in the series, "Revenge Is a Kiss" and "Crack of Sunlight, Crack in the Mirror," are finished and posted, and the last story, "Road to Nowhere," is to be in 7 parts, the first of which has been posted. There is also some really beautiful artwork to go along with the series.

I don't want to spoil anything, because no one wants that, especially with this trilogy, but suffice to say, this series has me squealing like an overexcitable six-year-old, and I urge you all to read it. It's got Dick, it's got Bruce, and it's got someone new you'll definitely want to meet. Go now and read it, and leave some love, because [profile] demon_faith   deserves it for this gem of a series.

Everyone who is suffering from the finale of Torchwood? Listen up. There is a fic you NEED to read, one that will make you feel so, so, so, so, SO much better.

It's Four Seasons of Torchwood by [profile] akimbie, and it is now one of my all-time favourite Jack/Ianto fics.

Go now and read it. Shoo. Go on, I say. Hurry!

(LJ is being persnickety, so if the link doesn't work, let me know and I'll repost it.)
lady_bug_kay: (downcastdick)

Christmas came early for me today. For the second time since she stopped writing fic, I have managed to coax, cajole, persuade, entice, or otherwise influence into writing fic one

[profile] demon_faith.

So, she's written me a guerrilla Bruce/Dick fic, cleverly hidden amongst the comment sections of various of my Bruce/Dick fics. It's a treasure hunt, and you can either go look for all the different parts (there are 14) or you can follow the map under the cut (where I have the links to each part). It's a fantastic little hurt/comfort story that I love and you should all go read. Right now.

Also, the DC Windowsill Challenge deadline has been extended to January 15, 2008. I think it's a great idea, so if you haven't looked into it, yet, I encourage you to give it a gander.

I don't tend to recommend fics, mainly because if I rec'd all the ones I love and want others to read, that's all I'd ever do. But I found an off-LJ story that I don't know if people have read (it's fairly new), and I want to let people know.

I popped over to the Smallville Slash Archive, which I haven't done in quite some time, since my taste for Clark/Lex fell rather by the wayside, and I stumbled across a great story called "Yesterday's Tomorrow" by Hope Roy. It's a very dark, bleak vision of what could have happened after the season 5 finale of Smallville, and it's nice and long and plotty. For those people who are like me and find a relationship between Clark and Lex in the last few years hard to reconcile with how far along the 'dark path' Lex has traveled lately, this is an unflinching look at what a relationship between these two would realistically be at this point in their lives/the show. This is a well-written and intelligent story, with an interesting take on the character of Lana. But you should be forewarned that VERY BAD THINGS take place. There is angst everywhere without a bit of fluff in sight, and if you object to mentions of rape or (somewhat) minor character death, you should avoid this story. However, if you're okay with darker fics, you really should give this one a read. And since it's a long one, you really have the chance to sink your teeth into the world.

WARNING: This is not a Superman story. What I mean by that is that there is no suit, there is no name, and Clark does not run around saving the day. This is a dystopic world, and Superman is not in charge.
